Sunflowers and Ladybugs

Around this time last year I create the Casey Beanie.  I wanted to make a great looking beanie that wasn't pink.  I have always loved sunflowers and I love this sunflower pattern as each petal has a life of its own.  The very first Casey was made as a gift for the daughter of our good friends Bek and Kieran.

This year Casey's Mum requested a pink and purple Lady Beetle Beanie.  As its been a pretty busy winter for C Percy Designs, I decided to see if anyone else had already come up with a great design.  After a bit of searching I found Megan Nadalet's blog 'Crochet Everyday.  On her blog she kindly shared her 'Ladybug Hat Pattern'.

As the beanie I was making was for a child, I simply used my basic pattern and used the design concepts that Megan came up with, simple yet effective.  I did not add the antennas as Bek preferred the beanie without them.

I think it looks pretty good!

Note: This beanie was made as a gift and is not for sale.

Some days I wish ...

My ensuite floor with Miss H's beautiful hair!

Today I was going to blog about a new beanie I made for a dear friends child but just as I went to start Miss H (3 yrs) came out to show me her new haircut.

Yes you read that correctly. NEW HAIRCUT.

Usually when Miss H is quiet for more than 5 minutes I go looking for her, but the boys are home due to a teachers strike, so the house was nosy and I therefore didn't notice Miss H's quietness.

Harriet waiting for her Haircut - I think she thought the Tiara would improve her new look.

She is very proud of her cutting efforts - thank goodness she is cute! Me, well I'm getting use to it and I'm just thankful that she didn't hurt herself.

So off we went to our local hair dresses who squeezed us in between appointments. Followed by a trip into town so the kids could have McDonalds for lunch, something I would not normally do but it was the only way I could bribe the boys to turn the wii/computer games off and get into the car without a meltdown.

Nothing has been achieved today. I've taken a heap of photos for Miss H's 21st birthday and I've had the odd chuckle at the expense of my cheeky 3 year old. I now know how my own mother felt when I chopped my younger sisters hair.

I hope you you've had a better day.

How to make a banner using iPiccy.com

I was on a forum today and someone asked how they should go about making a banner.

So I thought I would share with you today how I would make a banner for cheap using ipiccy.

1. Go to iPiccy.com and click on the 'Start Editing!' button

2. Choose the 'Create new blend button', its looks like 3 blue pieces of paper.

3. Insert desired size of banner in the space provided and click 'Create!'

4. Now you can insert a number of pictures, add text etc.  This is very easy, as its a simple click, drag and drop exercise.

5. When you are happy with your banner, click on the 'Done' button, then on the 'Save' button (picture of a floppy disk).

And there you have it, one online shop banner!

Online Friends

My question is:
Can you call someone a friend if you have only ever met them once but interact with them via the interweb on a daily basis?

Its weird, I was speaking to my Hubby Brett about how my friend Jeanie is running a giveaway on her blog, where the winner receives an iPad.  Being a MacMan he thought this was a great prize and asked the usual questions ... did she buy it? How is she going to determine who wins? How to enter? etc.

Then he said "Remind me again, how do you know her again".  And thats when I hesitated.

Admittedly Brett can't keep up with the friends that I have, I seem to know a lot of people though my various community activities - local museum, playgroup, Australian Breastfeeding Association, swimming lessons, teaching crochet, various school stuff etc.

But what made me hesitate was the fact that I momentarily questioned if calling this person a friend was right.  I feel like I know her, I know what she looks like and we've chatted a great deal over Facebook and in various forums but we've only met once. I know her better than some of my real world friends ...

... so I responded "Oh she's one of my online friends" and thats when I remembered that way back when Brett and I first met we spent well over 12 months getting to know each other via email as I was living in New York and he was living in Melbourne.
